On Thursday, July 28th 2005, a tornado struck Peterborough. People reported seeing a twisting funnel of dark cloud, lit up by lightning, and swirling along at ground level ripping up objects in its path, like a scene from the disaster movie Twister... the freak gale reached speeds of up to 130mph and sent slates flying off roofs and garden walls crashing down.
